In the Studio LA
In the Studio
Arriving in California around 2011, I set about putting together a small studio and recording my first album. It has been a long, though I must say, fun process with some glitches along the way. As we all have been told it is the journey that counts and a lot of hard work and dedication along the way. How true that is. I was intent on finding other musicians but it was not as easy as it had been in Virginia where there wasn’t such a vibrant industry. So, most individuals there were eager to join a band if they could find one. All one had to do was go to a music store and eventually if they were persistent they wold bump into a drummer or guitarists or finds someone on the help needed board and make a call. Most the music at the time was disco or cover bands. Here in LA because the industry is so active more often than not it was more difficult to hook up. I ended up learning how to record and mix, somewhat, and how to play lead guitar, bass and keyboards and maybe I will one day learn how to play drums and banjo. I am a songwriter first and foremost. That is why I studied English literature, so that I could write lyrics and become a songwriter. Does anyone become a songwriter? Or, is it part of ones life experiences taking time and never completing.
My first effort, songs I wrote with my longtime friends from the block I grew up on, is now completed and on streaming services and is available on CD Baby . It is titled Rock America. A second album is being released titled Bitter Sweet. These songs have been revised and reworked for many years. I believe that all art needs time to ferment like a fine wine with plenty of thought going into all the elements. More on why I feel this so passionately in creating the songs and the albums later.
